Bingo. It’s certainly a fly, I was thinking Syrphidae or maybe even a Calyptrate of some kind. Not a hard one to spot, and Tanner must really have been scratching his head after this one. It’s always a little extra frustrating when there is a well written article and they just give up when they search for an image.
