Hymenoptera and diptera are orders, not species.
That’s not actually what I was looking for, but I would agree that it’s some really bad writing. Clearly that should read “species of hymenoptera and diptera”. So I guess you’re right on that account!
IMMA, there is one other error that is even a bit worse…
Pictured critter is an hymenopteran. Doesn’t seem too subtle a mistake to me.
Exactly – more basic insect mistakes that I would expect from a lower quality publication. A wasp is not a fly!
But other than the glaring mistakes, the story behind this is very cool. I will have to now go back and take a look at the Braconids I studied as an undergraduate! I wonder how well these color patterns hold up between species or genera…
