 સાધન: વિકિપીડિયા તે રિચાર્ડ બ્રેનસન નવા વિચાર ધરાવે છે કે જે બહાર વળે; રીંગ પૂંછડીવાળા lemur સેવ કરવા (Lemur catta) દ્વારા તેમના બ્રિટિશ વર્જિન આઇલેન્ડ ખાનગી તેમને આયાત. બ્રાસન બહાર લેખ પોઈન્ટ માં ટાપુ બંધ પાઉન્ડ અને પ્રયત્નો લાખો વર્ષો ગાળ્યા તરીકે “વિશ્વમાં સૌથી પરિસ્થિતિકીય મૈત્રીપૂર્ણ ટાપુ”. પરંતુ તે મિસ્ટર બ્રાસન સંરક્ષણ વિજ્ઞાન જતું અને વધુ PR મૈત્રીપૂર્ણ રીતે લખાણ લખે લીધી છે દેખાય છે. કુલ માંગે છે, કારણ કે તેના પોતાના ઇકોલોજીકલ આકારણી ઓફ તકેદારી છતાં lemurs આવે છે “…Moskito પર બીજા ટાપુ નિવાસસ્થાન અને શરતો બનાવવા માટે સંપૂર્ણ છે.” કદાચ બ્રાસન શબ્દ સંપૂર્ણ વ્યાખ્યા છે કે જ્યાં bizarro વિશ્વ શબ્દકોશ છે “મૂળ માંથી સંપૂર્ણપણે ભિન્ન કંઈક”.
ખાતરી કરો કે ઠીક, પ્રથમ વિચાર દંડ એક જેવા લાગે છે – જો lemurs ભયમાં છે, તેમને બીજા જંગલી આશ્રય આપવા માટે પ્રયાસ નથી શા માટે? કૂવો, સંરક્ષણ એજન્સી ડો જેમ્સ Lazell ધરાવે છે 31 વર્ષ વર્જિન આઇલેન્ડ્સ અનુભવ અને ધ્યાન દોર્યું છે કે “Lemurs ચાલાક છે, ખબરદાર, આક્રમક, આ સરળ ટાપુ પરિસ્થિતિઓ પર હાનિકારક અસર કરી શકે છે કે જે સર્વભક્ષી પ્રાણીઓ. ગરોળી - તેઓ સંપૂર્ણપણે બધું ખાય છે, ફળ, મૂળ, જંતુઓ, પક્ષીઓ’ ઇંડા.” ઓહ, પરંતુ ચિંતા નથી, તમે એક ટાપુ વાંદરા રજૂ જ્યારે ખરાબ કંઇ થઇ શકે છે (પરિચય વાંદરા ઉજાડવું ફ્લોરિડા કી). બ્રાસન જો lemurs જ ચાલશે જાણે છે કે “આ વિચિત્ર gecko લેવા” (દુર્લભ સ્થાનિક દ્વાર્ફ-gecko જેવી Sphaerodactylus parthenopion), તેઓ કદાચ તેઓ ત્યારથી અન્ય ટાપુઓ ફેલાય આવશે ઉલ્લેખ નથી “સ્વિમિંગ ધિક્કાર” (રિંગ પૂંછડીવાળા lemur સ્વિમિંગ).
તેથી શા માટે અને પછી રિંગ પૂંછડીવાળા? તે અત્યંત ભયંકર નથી કારણ કે (ત્યાં છે ચિઠ્ઠીઓ અન્ય વધુ ભયંકર lemurs), પરંતુ તે સૌથી પ્રતિમાત્મક છે કારણ કે. તે ખરેખર તો આ હાસ્યાસ્પદ વિચાર વિશે દિવાલ મને નહીં શું છે. માત્ર તેમણે નિખાલસ રીતે સંવેદનશીલ ટાપુ નિવાસસ્થાન માં કદાચ આક્રમક જાતો રજૂઆત નથી – પરંતુ તેમણે સંરક્ષણ ખોટા સંદેશ ફેલાવો થયેલ છે કારણ કે. ધીમા બાળક જેવું બ્રાસન સંપૂર્ણપણે સંરક્ષણ પાછળ સમગ્ર વિચાર ગુમ જ્યારે તે સંગ્રહવા માટે રિંગ પૂંછડીવાળા આવ્યા છે. રીંગ પૂંછડીવાળા એક મુખ્ય પ્રજાતિ છે, મેડાગાસ્કર માં બનતું છે કે સર્વનાશ માટે ધ્યાન ખેંચે છે કે એક. તેના વતન ની staggeringly અનન્ય અને વિવિધ વસવાટો પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરવા માટે એક સુંદર પંપાળતું પ્રાણી. પરંતુ રિચાર્ડ બ્રેનસન તે વિશે કહે કંઈપણ નથી તો. શા મેડાગાસ્કર રક્ષણ સંતાપ જ્યારે તમે તરાપ મારો અને પ્રેમ એક સૌથી પ્રથમ સ્થાને રહેલી વ્યક્તિ કે વસ્તુ દરેક માટે એક નવું ઘર બનાવી શકો છો? હાશ, કટોકટી ટળી ગયો. રિચાર્ડ વાહિયાત જ્યારે મેડાગાસ્કર બળે.
હું આ ધૂની, તરંગી મનસ્વી કે મનમોજી ટાપુ ઝૂ માત્ર સંરક્ષણ તરીકે માસ્કરેડીંગ છે અને તેની પાછળ વાસ્તવિક પ્રોત્સાહન વ્યવસાયિક હોય છે શંકા. આગામી થોડા વર્ષોમાં એક મદદરૂપ થશે “મોજશોખ, ટાપુ પર બાંધવામાં કાર્બન ન્યુટ્રલ ઘરો”. નિઃશંકપણે ડોલર લાખો દરેક ખર્ચ થશે કે ઘરો ની ખરીદી incentivize માટે ખૂબ તેજસ્વી યોજના – તમે તે શું છે, જ્યારે અને તમે વિશ્વના રક્ષણ વિશે સારી લાગે હોવાનો ડોળ કરી શકો છો. બધા વર્જિન આઇલેન્ડ્સ કોઈપણ પ્રભાવશાળી વન્યજીવન અભાવ પછી; કુદરત ખાતરી એક અબજોપતિઓની વન્ડરલેન્ડ બનાવવા એક ભયંકર કામ કરે છે. શું ટાપુ આગામી આવે છે?

ક્રિસ Grinter દ્વારા, એપ્રિલ 6 ઠ્ઠી પર, 2011 બરાબર – પ્રશ્નમાં લાર્વાની *હજુ સુધી* સંપૂર્ણ છબીઓ ન હોવા બદલ થોડી માફી (હું થોડા દિવસોમાં કરીશ!). સપ્તાહના અંતે હું માઉન્ટ હેમિલ્ટન પર બર્કલેના વિદ્યાર્થીઓના જૂથ સાથે બહાર હતો અને પીએચડી ઉમેદવાર મેઘન કલપેપરે સ્કાફિનોટસની કેટલીક પ્રજાતિઓ અને કેટલાક લાર્વા એકત્રિત કર્યા.! So the specimen from Monday was indeed the larvae of a Scaphinotus beetle feasting inside the shell of a native terrestrial snail. This challenge was a hard one since these predatory Scaphinotus larvae are rarely encountered and there are zero images of out there – and none of them feeding. Better luck next time!
For now, here is an undetermined Scaphinotus species. In the coming weeks I will have 4-5 species photographed and identified (by Meghan) – and the larvae will have to be sequenced for species ID. Stay tuned.

માટે સૌથી ભાગ ફ્લાય્સ જંતુ ન હોય વિશે હું વધુ પડતી ઉત્તેજિત વિચાર. જો કે, ભેદી કુટુંબ Acroceridae અપવાદ છે. હું વખતોવખત કેટલીક રસપ્રદ જાતિ શેરિંગ શરૂ કરી શકશો – કુટુંબ મોર્ફોલોજી અદ્ભૂત વૈવિધ્યપુર્ણ છે. મારા દિવસો મોટા ભાગના અમારા વ્યાપક સંગ્રહ inventorying મ્યુઝિયમ ખાતે ખર્ચવામાં આવે છે 16,000 Acorcerids (ઉર્ફ નાના સ્વભાવનું ફ્લાય્સ). એટલે કે, તમે અન્ય વધુ સમૃદ્ધ પરિવારો સાથે તેની સરખામણી ત્યારે ખૂબ પ્રભાવશાળી બધા અવાજ ન કરી શકે (અને તે પર તુલનામાં આછા કરે 17,500,000 અન્ય અમે મ્યુઝિયમ હોય નમુનાઓને); પરંતુ તે ઘણી પ્રતિનિધિત્વ બહાર વળે, મોટા ભાગના તો, ના બધા સમગ્ર પરિવાર માટે જાણીતા નમુનાઓને. અન્ય સંસ્થાઓ આ માખીઓ શક્યતા મોટી assemblages હોય છે, જ્યારે, સાયન્સ ઓફ કેલિફોર્નિયા એકેડેમી સરળતાથી ક્યારેય ડૉ સંગ્રહ પ્રાપ્ત થી રેકોર્ડ દાવો કરી શકે છે. એવર્ટ હું. બહાર ચાલુ Acrocerids કારણ કે કેવી રીતે દુર્લભ તેઓ પ્રકૃતિ છે અભ્યાસ માટે એક જગ્યાએ મુશ્કેલ જૂથ હોવાનું, તેમના parasitoid બાયોલોજી, અને તેઓ પાંખ પર પકડી કેવી રીતે મુશ્કેલ હોઈ શકે છે. તેમના મોટા છાતી આ હવા મારફતે ઉડી છે કે રોકેટ સ્નાયુઓ સાથે પેક કરવામાં આવે છે – તમે એક ફૂલ તેમને પકડી નથી, તેથી જો તમે એક બેચેની છટકું માટે ઝંખના છોડી રહ્યાં છો. ઘર કોસ્ટા રિકા માં પાંખ પર આ પકડી મને શીખવી એક વાર્તા કહી હતી. તમે જો આ ક્ષેત્રમાં એક સાથીદાર વળેલી ઊભા – જલદી કોઈની કંઈક ઝીપ છેલ્લા સાંભળે તરીકે, તમે જંગલીની તક દ્વારા ફ્લાય snare આશા સ્વીંગ… તે જ્યારે એક વખત દરેક કામ કરે છે. આ માખીઓ પણ પુખ્ત કરોળિયા ના માત્ર બે જાણીતા એન્ડોપેરેસાઈટમાં છે (એક Tachinid રેકોર્ડ હોઈ શકે છે…). ઉપર અછડતી, નીઓકાચ, Theraphosid tarantulas એક પરોપજીવી છે (કંઈક Aphonopelma). એક લાર્વા તરીકે ફ્લાય તેના માર્ગ ઉપર સ્પાઈડર ના પગ કામ કરે છે અને પેટ જ્યાં તે પછી પુસ્તક ફેફસાંના બાજુમાં આવેલી સ્થિર કે બુરોઝ અને થોડા શ્વાસ લેવા માટેના છિદ્રને pokes. પછી તેને નજીક પરિપકવતા સ્પાઈડર માટે patiently રાહ જુએ. સ્ત્રી tarantulas સાથે, ફ્લાય દાયકાઓ સુધી નિષ્ક્રિય હોઇ શકે. આખરે કંઈક ફિલ્મ સમાન એલિયન્સ થાય છે અને ડિમ્ભક સ્પાઈડર ના આંતરિક અંગો પર ફીડ્સ પછી pupate માટે ઉભરી. પરંતુ બહાર કે શું નથી અથવા સ્પાઈડર એક પરોપજીવી છે figuring એક ડિસેક્શન વગર અશક્ય છે – તેથી જીવંત કરોળિયા વિશાળ સંગ્રહ યજમાન રેકોર્ડ મેળવવા માટે સંભાળેલ હોવી જ જોઈએ. Parasitoid જીવવિજ્ઞાન જ ઠંડી હોય છે.
ઉપર નમૂનો (કાચ klettii નવી, અનામી, પ્રજાતિઓ) એકત્રિત કરવામાં આવી હતી 1977 Schlinger અલામોસ ના નગર નજીક દ્વારા, મેક્સિકો – શક્યતા નકલ મોડલ સાથે ફૂલો પર, એક Chrysomelidae બીટલ (બીટલ લોકો, કુટુંબ બહાર કોઇ વિચારો?).
ક્રિસ Grinter દ્વારા, on March 24th, 2011 Better be careful of what you do while out in the countryside. Farms can be dangerous places, especially if you’re a photographer. Proposed legislation in Florida, titled simply “farms”, is attempting to make photography or drawings in, on or ના a farm without explicit written consent a first degree FELONY (up to 30 years in prison). What could possibly be the justification for this legislation? Journalist Barry Doyle suggests the good Senator is tightly in the pockets of Agribusiness – looking out for those poor farmers who are targeted by animal rights groups or even worse – human rights groups! I tend to concur, this legislation is a disgusting piece of corruption. It gets pretty bad:
(2) A person who photographs, video records, or otherwise produces images or pictorial records, digital or otherwise, at or of a farm or other property where legitimate agriculture operations are being conducted without the written consent of the owner, or an authorized representative of the owner, commits a felony of the first degree…
I strongly encourage any of my Florida readers to write to Senator Norman and express your absolute disgust in his legislation.

This hasn’t been the case over the last few weeks, I haven’t come across the normal array of terrible media crud. Maybe I just get jaded and stop looking as carefully – but this week I even came across a moth related correction from the Maui News. They fixed their error, but must have deleted the original article…
And for this week I found આ લેખ with the image below. Should be pretty easy to spot the weirdness (they do at least manage to point out that the moth is not the LBAM (light brown apple moth)).

તમે એક અમેરિકન બાઇસન શોધી શકો છો જ્યાં વિશ્વના કદાચ એકમાત્ર સ્થળ (વિ. ભેંસ) એક પામ વૃક્ષ આગામી એક બીચ નજીક ઊભા. સાન્ટા Catalina પર અઠવાડિયે એક અદ્ભુત એક હતી, અને થોડા unseasonable frosts સાથે ઠંડી વસંત હોવા છતાં, કેટલાક પ્રતિષ્ઠિત ભેગા કરવામાં આવી હતી. Here are just a few amusing images and you’ll notice one thing right away: no fields of wildflowers! As it turns out, almost a century of goat, pig and bison grazing has left mostly grass and cactus on the island. At one point there were over 1000 bison and countless herds of goats; it’s a wonder anything survived at all! આજ, there are thankfully only a modest ~200 bison left that are even on birth control (you guessed it, you can’t shoot the damn things since people “love” them – just like the stupid eucalyptus you can’t cut down). માં 1924 a small heard of bison were brought over to shoot the movie The Vanishing American. સ્વાભાવિક રીતે, the project went over budget, the scene was cut and the animals were let loose instead of paying to return them home. 80 years later and you’re left with an island you can only fight to “conserve” and not restore. Sad fact is that we have no clue what the island actually used to be like. It’s even hypothesized that the endemic island fox (of which we saw 6!) was brought over by indigenous peoples a few thousand years ago from neighboring islands. I guess it’s in our nature to mess with our environment.
As I was photographing the above, this beast walked up behind me. It wasn’t running, I was!

Tomorrow morning I’m off for a 10 day collecting trip down to ટૅંપા. I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to join Dr. Jerry Powell of UC Berkeley on a moth survey, and this will be my first time to any of the islands. The Channel Islands are known for their high levels of endemism, and none is more famous than the Channel Island Fox. There are also a handful of endemic butterflies and moths that I’ll be hoping to find, but at the very least I know it’s wildflower season and I’ve got my camera primed.
I will likely have little or no access to the internet while staying on the island, so hang tight for a week. Had I planned ahead I would have scheduled posts or a guest author! Please do stay tuned for some of my first images of the 2011 field season.

દેખીતી રીતે something in the Mazda 6 fuel line is warm and inviting for the yellow sac spider, enough so that they are building webs over the vent systems of the 4 cylinder vehicles (and not the 6!). The problem has been deemed a “spider infestation” by the car company, and the clogged vent lines then can lead to a cracked gas tank and the possibility of a fire.
“A certain type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line and this may cause a restriction of the line”
So far only 20 cases are confirmed, but this problem is prolific enough that it has lead to a recall of over 52,000 sedans! I think it’s high time the major car companies hire entomology consultants – after all, my retainer would be a lot less than the cost of that recall…
I consulted with our resident team of arachnologists here at the સીએએસ, and the above image does appear to be a sac spider. It’s too hard to tell from the image, but it’s probably not an egregious taxonomic failure.
