Butterfly v týdnu

Not the typical butterflybut this is the protein folding structure from a South American hemorrhagic feverthe Machupo virus. The article was found on Science Daily. A striking resemblance to a butterfly, maybe even a Hesperiidae (photo from Butterflies of America).

Naštěstí, I’m not a beetle

Because I would have been subjected to this. Talk about animal cruelty! OK, just kidding, but this story is a bit ridiculous. The article states that the scientists had used the voice of Limbaugh because it wasreadily available”, not because they hated him. Well that turns out not to be true, they chose Rush . . . → Přečtěte si více: Naštěstí, I’m not a beetle

All my friends are insects

Rivers Cuomo wrote me a song. Not bad, but now I think I want that mantis costume for Halloween. And of course I am obliged to point out that earthworms are not insects

Stupid buttefly of the week

V oboru

The top image is from the Baboquivari Mountains (Baboquivari Peak in the middle), Brown Canyon Research Station. . . . → Přečtěte si více: V oboru

OK butterfly people, who am I?

This is an old image of mine, so it’s not perfect. If you can tell me this butterfly to species you get a high-five. If you know the subspecies, I’ll send you a new pack of #3 stainless steel pins! Only hint: It’s from the western USA.
